What is a USFS test session and how do we register?
TL;DR
A USFS test session is an officially-sanctioned event where skaters can attempt their next test. Tests are administered by host clubs, judged by a minimum of three judges, and registration goes through the host club (typically via the EntryEeze platform), not directly through USFS.
USFS test sessions are how skaters formally pass each level in the Singles Test track (Free Skate and Moves in the Field).
How to find and register for a test session:
1. Your skater's coach submits the test request — typically through their member club's account on EntryEeze (or a similar platform like SkatingClubsHQ)
2. Test sessions are hosted by individual member clubs, not USFS directly. Your local club's calendar will show upcoming sessions
3. Each session has a deadline several weeks ahead, so plan with the coach
What happens at the session:
- The skater performs their test elements in a specific order in front of the judging panel
- USFS test sessions require a minimum of three judges — a panel of two judges is not sufficient for an official test pass
- Judges score each element pass/retry/fail and discuss before issuing a verdict (pass / retry on specific elements / fail)
Test fees:
- Vary by club, by level, and by region
- Generally in the $60–$200 range per attempt at lower levels, more at higher levels
- Some clubs include a session fee separate from the test fee
If your skater doesn't pass:
- Most levels allow retesting — usually after a minimum waiting period (often 28 days)
- Retest fees apply
- Coaches typically know exactly what your skater needs to fix before the next attempt
Important: USFS does NOT accept individual test registrations directly. Everything goes through a member club. If you don't have club membership, that's the first step.
Want to track which test elements your skater is "session-ready" on and which still need work? SkateMarks shows distance-to-test for each element so you and your coach are on the same page about timing.
